What is Long-Term Availability for Embedded Boards?

If you’ve been around obsolescence management before, then you most likely understand what this phrase means and its importance in legacy equipment manufacturing. However, if you’re new to the scene or if you’re in need of a refresher, then this article is for you.

Long-term availability of embedded boards and systems is what GDCA is all about. As a legacy equipment manufacturer, we are OEM authorized to sustain and support their older products for their previous customers. We not only acquire the boards, but we take proactive measures to avoid counterfeits, component fall-out, and untested modifications. Our goal is to ensure that, if there is demand for the board long after the OEM continues to support it, our customers will receive support, repairs, and replacements throughout the board’s lifecycle.

Our OEM partners rely on GDCA to support their customers as a second source of supply for boards with lifecycles beyond ten to fifteen years. They transfer their EOL’d products to GDCA, recognizing that their customers have a lifecycle demand that exceeds their ability to support it, and they want to ensure that they have options for sustainment. If a board isn’t sustained, or if there is no apparent need for it, then it can be classified as having no demand and dismantled. Once that happens, test equipment, technical information, and other important information becomes much harder to access and the board more complicated to recreate.

With their authorization, we manufacture new, authentic systems that precisely match their original product in order to support embedded boards until the end of the product’s lifecycle. We ensure long-term availability for these boards for as long as there is demand for them, as well as excellent customer support. We also create accurate forecasting assessments, offer legacy management early in the design cycle of boards that we acquire, protect critical COTS IPs, and provide lifecycle assurance by assessing potential obsolescence threats along a program’s lifecycle.

GDCA is a trusted legacy equipment manufacturer for many OEMs and their customers. We provide long-term availability for embedded boards and systems, as well as support and sustainment engineering throughout the lifecycle of the board.
