GD California Acquires Media & Voice Processing Boards from Performance Technologies
Livermore, CA – January 23, 2007 – GD California, a premier manufacturer of legacy embedded computer boards, announced today the completion of the latest business agreement with Performance Technologies (NASDAQ: PTIX), a leading developer of communications platforms and systems, to license manufacturing rights of the latter’s legacy media and voice processing boards. Specifically, this agreement refers to Performance Technologies’ MTN1200, MTN2300, MTN4100 and MTN4200 series of media and voice processing cards.
The partnership between Performance Technologies and GD California was firmly established in 1999 when the first set of board transfers took place, and since then, a number of end-of-life product transitions have successfully taken place between the two companies.
Following the agreement between GD California and Performance Technologies, all rights for continued manufacturing, repair, sales, marketing, and customer support for these legacy products have been transferred to GD California.
“We are extremely pleased that our customers still have a source of supply and repair for these legacy products, said Steve Wigent, access product manager for Performance Technologies. “We have worked with GD California for several years now and teaming with a high quality legacy product partner allows us to move forward in providing our customers with new high-performance CompactPCI®, AdvancedTCA® and MicroTCA™ application-ready platforms while at the same time providing them access to legacy products they may still require.”
The products being transferred provide voice, fax, and data processing, and are found in applications such as media servers, modem servers, IP-PBX gateways, and wireless gateways:
MTN1200, Media and Voice Processing Mezzanine Cards MTN2300, Media and Voice Processing PCI Cards MTN4100, Media and Voice Processing PTMC Mezzanine Cards MTN4200, Media and Voice Processing PTMC Cards
“This entire product line is a welcome addition to our existing portfolio of products. By acquiring the manufacturing rights to these four product families, we are able to offer products for applications such as VoIP/FoIP, softswitch systems, wireless network servers, and SMS, and we can now service an even bigger portion of the telecom/datacom market,” said Steve Roldan, vice president of sales and marketing for GD California.
The collaborations between GD California and the original manufacturers have long proven beneficial, not only for the parties directly involved, but for the most important party, the customer. Extending the life of the embedded board means that the life of the entire application will also be lengthened, thereby eliminating expensive re-designs, and even new designs.
