Ships Self Defense System (SSDS) MK1 enters into an AAP Agreement for Protection of Folsom Research COTS Designs
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Joint GD California/Resource Analysis Press Release
Ships Self Defense System (SSDS) MK1 enters into an AAP Agreement for Protection of Folsom Research COTS Designs:
San Diego, CA August 19, 2003 – GD California, Inc. and Resource Analysis Corporation (RAC), announced today at the Diminishing Manufacturing Sources & Material Shortages (DMSMS) Conference that the Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division has selected the Availability Assurance Program (AAP) as the preferred solution to protect future production requirements for three (3) essential designs manufactured by Folsom Research.
The collaboration between NSWC-PHD, GD California and Folsom Research for an AAP Subscription Agreement, which guarantees future production capabilities for the SSDS Program, illustrates the power of this new and innovative solution for providing Aftermarket COTS Support at the Board Level.
After careful engineering review and analysis of the available options the Program Manager for the SSDS MK1 Program at Port Hueneme made the determination that AAP provided both the lowest cost and lowest risk solution. In comparison to a Life Time Buy or potential Technology Insertion the AAP solution was the clear choice.
Mike Jones, President, of Folsom Research, Inc, Rancho Cordova, CA stated “Folsom Research is pleased to team with GD California in support of the Navy’s SSDS MK1 Program which provides a win-win for all involved. We are excited to participate and support this new alternative which is a viable solution to the life cycle support and obsolescence challenges. With AAP we know that Folsom Research products and designs will be available as long as needed to meet the customer’s demand requirements.”
AAP provides assurance that products can be produced and repaired for the life of a program and does not require the purchase of any products now or in the future. It is a service that transfers the technology and support from the Original Manufacturer to the Aftermarket Manufacturer that will guarantee availability. It is how you can “Protect Your Designs from Obsolescence”
The RAC / GD California partnership provides subscribers with 2 decades of RAC’s component obsolescence tracking experience married with GD California’s 16 years experience managing and supporting around 3,000 different legacy products. The Availability Assurance Program may be viewed as an Insurance Policy for COTS Designs.
