Motorola Computer Systems takes the lead to participate in the “Availability Assurance Program” (AAP). GD California Inc. and Resource Analysis Corporation announce the introduction of the “AAP” at the 4th annual Port Huemene DMSMS Conference.
Livermore, CA October 20, 2002 – GD California, Inc. and Resource Analysis Corporation (RAC), today announced, the first signed contract of the Availability Assurance Program (AAP). This service will revolutionize obsolescence; while providing management solutions for Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) circuit cards and board sub-assemblies.
Motorola Computer Systems (Tempe, AZ; MOT) has entered into an agreement with GDCA to support the Availability Assurance Program and see great potential benefits for all parties, especially the end customer.
“This marks a new period of innovation and performance improvement that will help deliver significant enhancements over the coming years, while continuing to help protect customer’s hardware and software investments.” Stated Motorola Computer Group, Tempe.
While the Naval Surface Warfare Center – Port Hueneme Division will be AAP’s inaugural client. Entering into a Subscription Agreement with GD California and RAC for two Motorola boards.
“We see the Availability Assurance Program as a new and viable solution option to help us secure and protect our AEGIS designs against the constant battle of obsolescence. We have placed two boards in the program as a pilot effort and look to secure more boards with this method in the future," said Tony Downs, DMSMS Team Leader for the Air Dominance & Missile Logistics Code 5C20 at NSWC-PHD.
AAP leverages the strengths of both GD California and RAC past experiences. Along with their strategic partnerships with Original Technology Manufacturers (OTM) who work to develop new products and technology the AAP partnership will allow customer support for products long after it is viable for the manufacturer to do so.
AAP provides assurance that a Specific Product can be produced or repaired in a Specified Quantity for a Specified Period of Time. AAP does not require the purchase of any products now or in the future. It is only a service that will guarantee availability. The Availability Assurance Program (AAP) may be viewed as an Insurance Policy for embedded computer designs. Customers benefit from AAP by not having to redesign, re-qualify or re-spare. In many cases the combination of these three expenses amount to over $1 Million. The initial purchases will occur from the Original Technology Manufacturer until they choose not to support the product; at which point, future product acquisitions will be made from GD California Inc.
“We are very excited to part of AAP service offering which provides an innovative solution to the Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) community that will protect their strategic and long term designs into the future. The program will eliminate technology insertion impacts due to obsolescence and provide programs with confidence and security at a low cost,” said Jeff Hanser Executive Vice President of Resource Analysis Corporation.
