Motorola’s standard EBX
(Embedded Board eXpandable) form factor board, MBX 860 was originally
transferred to GD California in August, 04. The well-established EBX format is an excellent balance of size, economy,
functionality and flexibility. In 46 square inches of surface area, this SBC
format supports embedded designs with higher performance CPUs and generous
on-board I/O functions. The EBX form factor is the most effective cost and size
solution for the majority of deeply embedded applications. According to VDC
(Venture Development Corporation) the Embedded Form Factor will grow 22.5%
between 2004 and 2006 and constitutes 40% of all Merchant Embedded Mother
Boards.
GD developed prototypes in a record-breaking 90 days to three industry users
who tested and approved the performance of the MBX 860. The testing which
included applications like printer, automated semiconductor equipment and medical
diagnostic, performed exactly as specified by the original manufacturer.
